Think you're fit to be a dive leader? FIT (Familiarization - Instruction - Testing) will test your skills and tell you where you stand in terms of your readiness to become a dive leader. NAUI FIT is a non-certification program required as a prerequisite for enrolment in a NAUI Assistant Instructor Course, Divemaster Course or Instructor Crossover Course (ICC). Participants are provided knowledge of NAUI's history, teaching theory and methods, water skills and instructional techniques through a series of performance evaluations, critiques and counselling to ensure they are aware of their state of preparedness (FITness) for NAUI membership. At the conclusion of your FIT training you'll receive a written evaluation of your strengths and weaknesses. You'll know if you are ready to become a dive leader.

Being a dive professional is not a job, it is a way of life and the Divemaster qualification is the first rung on the professional ladder. We offer this course with an aim to produce experienced, knowledgeable Divemasters who have the knowledge and passion to organise and conduct enjoyable, safe open water dives for certified divers. A NAUI Divemaster plays a very important role in any dive operation and, as a bonus, is paid to do what he or she loves to do whilst gaining the valuable experience necessary to advance to the next level, that of Instructor. During your DM training, you will learn how a dive operation works, develop your interpersonal skills and enhance your waterskills to that of a NAUI Instructor.

Becoming an instructor is not extremely difficult, but it is challenging. The ITC (Instructor Training Course) teaches you how to teach. You need to have an excellent understanding of diving sciences, procedures and good public speaking abilities. You will also need to have excellent in water skills and be very comfortable underwater. You also need to have excellent intrapersonal skills. A good instructor will have empathy and ability to motivate others. NAUI values and respects the knowledge, skills and abilities of its instructors. As such, NAUI Instructors are authorized and can be approved to teach every level of diving in which they possess the training, knowledge and experience. NAUI also allows its instructors to develop their own "instructor specified" specialty courses.
